Bikinis and flip flops aren’t the only things that pop up during the summertime. Unfortunately, a lot of homeowners have uninvited guests that invade their homes and properties. Whether this is a seasonal ordeal or something long-term, this is something that has to be nipped in the bud. There are many different types of critter problems people tend to have. You can either take on the problem yourself or you can hire an exterminator to do all of the dirty work for you. Here are some tips to help you fight off annoying pests that emerge during the summer months.
Raccoons
These adorable, yet annoying animals can be quite cumbersome if you don’t properly guard your property. They love digging around in trash. If you’re tired of picking up garbage every morning, then you will need to take certain measures to make sure that they stay out of your yard. For one, you can hire a contractor to install a new fence or gate to keep them out. Of course, they know how to climb as well, so you may want to buy garbage guards as a backup.
Bats
If you have a chimney, you may have a family of bats living inside of it. Make sure to clean this out regularly. You can also have a chimney covered installed by a professional contractor. Having a screen over your fireplace will help to keep bats and other rodents from creeping into your home as well.
Fire Ants
They’re as red as fire and their bites sting almost as badly. Fire ants are one of our worst enemies during the summertime, so you will need to try to keep your home as tidy as possible. Ants love food, especially sweets, so make sure that you clean up all crumbs. They find their way into your home by crawling through cracks, holes and crevices. You can seal up the corners of walls and floors, then have bigger holes and cracks repaired by a contractor.
Squirrels
These tiny critters are cute when you’re watching them run around in the trees in your yard, but not when they’re shacking up in your attic. If you have invaders in your attic, you should take certain measures to get rid of them and keep them out. First, you will need an animal catcher, then you will need a contractor to patch up your attic so that rodents can no longer get inside. Consider having the branches of trees close to your home trimmed. Squirrels use trees to hop onto roofs and invade attics.
Mosquitos and June Bugs
We all hate getting bit up by mosquitoes, so much so that we’re willing to stay indoors every night during the summer just to stay away from them. Of course, this doesn’t have to be the case. Certain home improvements can be made to keep these nuances off of your skin, such as installing a screen around your porch, balcony or patio. You can also build a screen around your swimming pool if you have one.
Hopefully these tips will help you and your family stay pest-free during the summertime.
